'Reach for the Stars'

Imperative Space associate Christopher Phillips has announced a project to help revitalise astronomy education and stimulate wider science education in schools in challenging environments around the world.

Working with Astronomers without Borders, the Astronomy Association of Afghanistan and Imperative Space, Christopher originally planned a project with schools in Kabul and in remote areas of Afghanistan in Autumn 2012, to provide lessons and observing sessions, and to distribute teaching resources and a specially written introductory book about Astronomy.

However, the worsening security situation in Afghanistan forced a delay to this initial project, and so the initiative has widened its scope to a longer-term plan in more countries, working with local partners on the ground in each case.

The project is not-for-profit and volunteer-led and the partner organisations are providing support free of charge. The plans for the project have received endorsement from several NGOs, including an agency of the UN, and are intended to be aligned with existing successful projects in each location,

This page will be updated further as the project progresses.
